McKail Project

  • Space: Study

The clients wanted to convert their spare bedroom into a dedicated study, a space where they could comfortably work from home while also housing their growing collection of books. With their current bookcase overflowing, storage was a key priority, along with functionality and a calm, inviting atmosphere.

One clever detail is the custom cutout in the side of the tall cabinet, designed so the printer can feed paper straight onto the desk. It’s a small touch, but one that makes a big difference to how the space functions day to day.

The room features natural wool carpet for comfort and warmth, light-toned cabinetry to keep things feeling open and airy, and soft timber accents that add a relaxed, welcoming feel.

The look is calm and minimal, with a focus on soft textures and light finishes. Timber details bring warmth and personality, while the cabinetry blends in beautifully with the rest of the space.

It’s a modern, understated design that feels considered and easy to live with, ideal for both working and unwinding with a good book.

Challenges & Solutions

This project came together smoothly, with thoughtful planning helping us get the most out of the room. The custom cabinetry allowed us to balance storage and workspace without crowding the room, and the result is a study that feels just right for the clients’ lifestyle.

Newr

We have had a great experience working with NEWR to renovate our bathrooms, laundry and study. The design process was detailed and made for a straight forward build. The outcome is excellent.
