Silky Oak Project

  • Space: Bathroom

Our clients approached us with the goal of updating their ensuite to create a more functional and beautiful space. Their vision involved removing the corner spa bath and squaring off the ensuite to create a larger, symmetrical room. This allowed for a spacious his and hers vanity with ample storage and a generous shower, offering both practicality and elegance.

The pastel marble pill-shaped tiles became the focal point of the design, influencing the overall aesthetic.

Soft brushed nickel fixtures and a curved vanity were chosen to complement the curves of the tiles, while arched shaving cabinets added a touch of character.

A Velux Skylight was installed to flood the space with natural light, elevating the ensuite to a new level of luxury.

Additional features like under-tile heating and feature wall lighting further enhanced the space.

“What an incredible ensuite renovation! We are absolutely thrilled with the workmanship and the results.

The new space is big, beautiful, practical and so stylish. NEWR have exceeded all of our expectations. The whole project went smoothly – Craig, Brad and the team and amazing Bella delivered excellence and precision in all aspects of the project. We love the feature marble pill-shaped tiles, we love the under-tile heating, we love the new skylight, we love the symmetry in the design work and we love using the new ensuite!

Bella helped to guide us with decisions. All the staff we worked with were friendly and professional, and respectful of our home during the renovation. We knew we had chosen the best company from the start – we cannot speak highly enough about NEWR.

Thanks NEWR – we will be so appreciative for many years to come!”

The client desired a refined yet indulgent aesthetic that was both modern and inviting. The bathroom’s design combines elegance with practical functionality. The soft pastel tones from the marble tiles contrast beautifully with the bold black vanity and cabinets, creating a striking balance. The curved design elements in the vanity and shaving cabinets add a unique touch, while the Velux skylight enhances the space’s overall brightness and visual appeal.

Challenges & Solutions

One of the major challenges was repairing the rotting timber floor due to an existing leak in the shower. Our team had to replace the timber joists and re-waterproof the area to ensure the space’s longevity.

Additionally, the client required more natural light, and while skylight placements are often limited by roof structure, we managed to position a Velux Fixed Skylight centrally in the space, enhancing the room’s brightness.

Other considerations included aligning all tiles and shower screens with grout lines to maintain a seamless finish, and ensuring the marble feature tiles were carefully sealed due to their porous nature.
