Tarrabool Project

  • Space: Bathroom

The Tarrabool Project was a unique renovation with a personal connection. We had previously renovated the ensuite for the former owners of this home, and when the new owners moved in, they loved the design so much they engaged us to complete the renovation of the main bathroom and WC.

The goal was to create spaces that felt cohesive with the existing ensuite while still reflecting the new owner’s personal style. The brief focused on warmth, subtle texture, and soft, complementary finishes that would bring a fresh but harmonious feel to the home.

Coral Handmade Tiles

To inject warmth and personality into the bathroom, we used small handmade coral-toned tiles that added depth and a tactile quality to the space. These were paired with terrazzo-look stone tiles for a refined yet natural contrast.

Custom Solid Timber Vanity & Curved Shaving Cabinet

A solid timber vanity was chosen to anchor the bathroom with warmth and character. Above it, a curved shaving cabinet adds softness and visual interest, tying into the curved detail used in the previously renovated ensuite.

Nickel Tapware and Ambient Wall Lighting

Soft nickel tapware was used throughout to echo the finish of the existing ensuite while keeping the look timeless. Wall-mounted lights were added for ambient, flattering light and an extra touch of luxury.

WC Enhancements

In the WC, we introduced a small hand basin for added functionality. A sleek in-wall cistern toilet and a continuation of feature tiles bring the same design language through this compact space.

Tiled UPVC Window Returns

We also tiled neatly into the existing UPVC windows, ensuring a clean and integrated finish that enhances the overall quality of the renovation.

The bathroom feels extremely light and airy, thanks to the beautiful natural light that floods the space throughout the day. To complement this, we introduced earthy tones and soft textures that create a relaxing, spa-like feel.

The combination of coral-toned handmade tiles, natural timber, brushed nickel and subtle curves results in a design that feels both contemporary and calming. The palette offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere without overwhelming the senses, and ties seamlessly with the home’s existing finishes.

Newr

Thank you to Craig, Bella and the wonderful team of tradies at NEWR for turning our early 2000’s main bathroom and toilet into a timeless masterpiece. It was a pleasure working with the whole team, but I (Lindy) especially loved tile shopping with Bella. We would definitely recommend the team for any renovation work.

Challenges & Solutions

One of the key design challenges was ensuring the new spaces felt connected to the previously renovated ensuite while still standing on their own. We achieved this by selecting complementary finishes – warm nickel tapware, curved details, and natural textures – that nod to the ensuite without copying it directly.
